Looking to hire a Marketing Strategy Consultant?

The marketing strategy consultants who are members of the DMU are one of our most passionate groups. The complexities they have to understand and manage are second to none. If you’re in need of a strategy consultant who work with you on the big, messy challenges that affect the direction of your brand then reach out to them to see how they can help.

Here's what we're most often asked by businesses wanting to hire a Marketing Strategy Consultant...

What does a Strategy Consultant do exactly?

A strategy consultant is there to recommend a wide variety of actions that will change a brands outcome.

Often the questions are complex and multi-layered and tend to either take the form of either changes to marketing tactics, or to change the systems and processes which an organisation operates by internally. It could be anything from how to reposition a brand to a younger audience online, or to assess the financial implications of moving to new domain name.

A strategist will work with you collaboratively often over several months to identify recommendations and will often also oversee their implementation.

What areas do marketing strategists work in?

Each marketing strategist is different. Some will specialise in certain industries, for instance the SSAS Startup space. Others will specialise in one or two highly defined areas. For example, we’ve seen examples challenges recently for how to reconfigure a CRM system for an enterprise level client or how to get buy-in for multiple siloed teams to supply social media content.

As a result it can take time to find the right person that fits the challenge you are dealing with.

To complete these activities each strategist will have their own suite of tools and their own network of people who they can introduce to help with specific technical activities such as Content, SEO or PPC.

How much do Strategy Marketing Consultants charge?

Pricing for strategy work varies but is often one of the highest priced items across the spectrum of digital marketing.

Pricing can be defined on a project basis or on a retained basis for a set number of months. With either route you can expect to pay at least a day rate of £1000 for a UK consultants services.

Typically, most strategists will only work with a small number of clients at any one time so availability may also be something you will need to consider. Often the best strategists will be booked for months in advance.

Alongside this, you will also need to ensure there is adequate budget to implement the recommendations a marketing strategist supplies. This could vary depending on the size and scope of the challenges a brand faces but could include overhauling content, restructuring analytics dashboards or moving suppliers for paid advertising. Once the work is underway with a strategist you will have a better insight into what these costs are.
